Served an array of clients, most notably Michelin North America's motorcycle tire division. I've coordinated publicity campaigns and media relations; designed and sourced production of catalogs, collateral and point-of-sale assets; planned and executed product launches; developed product talking points; spearheaded copywriting and design for print and online advertising; handled motorsports communications, advertorial feature writing, website design and content;coined new-product names; and planned media placement and scheduling.
For other clients, I've developed and implemented complete image suites, including logos, packaging, displays and collateral. Working with the Colorado Bar Association for the past three years, I handled the design and production of an annual, 1100-page membership directory, converting and organizing several large databases into a user-friendly printed guide that is an essential resource for practicing lawyers across the state.
Served as editor of Petersen Publishing’s Mountain Biker. I was in charge of the conception, planning and execution of editorial content for a 130,000-circulation enthusiast magazine. My stewardship saw the magazine grow from a startup title to the No. 2 position in its market segment; at the time it was the world's fastest-growing magazine in its category. Supervised an eight-person editorial and production staff while overseeing an annual budget of $3 million. Responsibilities included issue planning, staffing and personnel development, feature and column writing, reporting, directing photo shoots, copy editing, photography and freelance assignments.
Served for five years as art director for VeloNews, The Journal of Competitive Cycling: Supervised a three-person department in the design and production of an 18-issues-per-year enthusiast sports magazine. Responsible for designing covers, feature articles, columns, ads, media kits and marketing collateral; collaborated with editorial staff on layout concepts; established and maintained productive relationships with illustrators, photographers, printers and other vendors; and organized and maintained the company’s photo library.
In addition to my regular duties, I made frequent editorial contributions as writer, copy editor and photographer; and wrote, edited, designed and photographed two editions of an advertorial magazine produced under contract for the Italian Trade Commission.
During my tenure, the magazine earned Publish Magazine’s award for best newspaper design; the Western Publications Association’s award for best consumer tabloid; and Folio’s Editorial Excellence Award in the consumer sports category. The magazine was also one of the three fastest-growing titles in the U.S. for three consecutive years.
In charge of production of the 16-page monthly newsletter for a 35-store Domino's franchise, including editorial, design, photography and press checks. Designed and produced a series of employee informational posters for in-store use. Earned the company's Team Player award for contributions beyond the scope of the position.
Staff reporter for The Daily Aztec, the student newspaper for San Diego State University. Covered general campus news and investigative features. Served concurrently as associate editor of the campus magazine, Monty!
