▶When mountain biking made its debut as an Olympic sport in Atlanta, cycling-specific magazines were shut out of the credentialing process, in favor of broadcast networks and other national and international media. However, thanks to some arm-twisting and networking, I was able to secure a media credential as the only reporter from any U.S. cycling publication. You may also note that one of my sidebars presciently alludes to the doping controversy in cycling that would engulf the sport a decade later.
